BY THE LIGHT OF FIRE
you there all dressed to kill
if you do what you say you will
can we stand for more than sin
or is this how honesty ends?
by the light of fire will your desire win?
there once was a place
where we could live by the fuel of integrity
lost now out in the wild
destroyed by digital cities
by the light of fire will your desire
by the light of fire will your desire win?
OH UNIVERSE
oh universe listen to me
I’m crumbling right over my feet
all I want is just a little bit of guidance
my eyes are wide but my ears are weak
all I hear is the same old sound
the sound of nothing at all
you left me here all alone
I followed you but I followed you a little too long
and right now my hopes are all tangled up
my love it kills as it fades out
this takes too long
just want to move on
down a road I think was pre-programed
In fact I’m staring right at the map
I think I might just stick around to view it
said I might just stick around
oh universe it seems to me
that all good things contain disappearing ink
when all I want is just a little bit of patience
my heart it tells my mouth when it’s time to speak
and all i know is what I’m told
I guess you could say that i’m never ever really sure
but when I find you oh my sweet darling
I think i’ll finally know where to rest my wary soul
but right now my hopes are all tangled up
my love it kills as it fades out
this takes too long
just want to move on
down a road I think was pre-programed
In fact I’m staring right at the map
I think I might just stick around to view it
said I might just stick around
THE DAY YOU LEARNED TO FLY
I was raised to appreciate a song
by the merits of its soul
I was always taught to search out the truth
of what lies behind the cool
but his songs are always so cool
and in a moment it all came falling free
like a bird with a broken wing
and sometimes we can take this all for granted
but sometimes we just sing
yeah we just sing
just like we did the day you learned to fly
the day you learned to fly
you sang all your songs up and then you took flight
the day you learned to fly
the day you learned to fly
with all the crazy hate in the air lately
why can’t we just live in romance
carried through time and space
with just love and peace
maybe we’ll find the rhythm to dance
and we’ll just dance
just like we did the day you learned to fly
the day you learned to fly
you sang all your songs up and then you took flight
the day you learned to fly
the day you learned to fly
the day you learned to fly
the day you learned to fly
just like we did the day you learned to fly
the day you learned to fly
you sang all your songs up and then you took flight
the day you learned to fly
the day you learned to fly
the day you learned to fly
the day you learned to fly
na na na na na ooh ooh ooo
BREAK WITHER SETTLE
I’m balancing here on the flake of a pedal
and I’m wondering wondering if it’ll break wither or settle
now I’m on solid ground and I’ve been looking around
with no direction but with an ear to the ground
I’m listening for the sound waves
I’m balancing here on the edge of all this silence
and I’m wondering how a quiet heart could build the fire to ignite it
or fight it or mind it but you… yeah you got it… tell me you… do you got it?
ha ha hey hey ha hey hey….
San Isabel from a tower you fell
to your death and all your shades of green
organically becoming me and it’s true yeah it’s true that we are all one
oh it’s true hey it’s true we are all one with everything with everything
stay fly supporting me stay still while i draw your wings
I feel like a fallen leaf… just need to turn back to a seed
stay fly supporting me stay still while i draw your wings
I feel like a fallen leaf… just need to turn back to a seed
I’m balancing balancing here on the flake of a pedal
and I’m wondering wondering if it’ll break wither or settle
now I’m on solid ground and I’ve been looking around
with no direction but with an ear to the ground
I’m listening for the sound waves
like clouds our thoughts reshape and then they disappear
but the molecules the molecules that built them are still here
like clouds our thoughts reshape and then they disappear
but the molecules the molecules that built them are still here
like clouds our thoughts reshape and then they disappear
but the molecules the molecules that built them are still here
yeah they’re still here yeah they’re right here
I CAN’T HELP MYSELF
oooooh ooooh ooooooh
oooooh ooooh ooooooh
open your ears let me explain
I had no intention to go down with this plane
we may have started this fight with no one to blame
so we went and poured more fuel to the flame
as desperate as we were last night
I was even more desperate to make it alright
but you know how I think when I think too much
babe I know you always tell me not to rush
but I can’t help myself
no I can’t help myself
when I look into your green eyes
rest assured this won’t be the last
time our stubbornness shines back
somewhere between the lines of peace and war
that’s where we’ll find what our love stands for
just like an eight that’s been knocked over
you and I are bound to do this forever
If only i could just shut my mouth
babe if i could just shut my mouth
but I can’t help myself
no I can’t help myself
when i look into your green eyes
I know we’ll be fine
I know we’ll be fine
I know we’ll be fine
I know we’ll be fine
oooooh ooooh oooooh
oooooh ooooh oooooh
SHADOWS ON THE WALL
don’t let her in and you’ll never be let down
what a life to live when you’re living underground
If you’re content then never mind it all
when your days are spent watching shadows on the wall
ohh oh ah ohh It’s more than what you see
ohh oh ah ohh I wish you’d just believe me
ohh oh ah ohhh I just wish you’d call sometime
It’s not just shadows on the wall
have you ever seen the light that the sun brings
reflected in the morning snow it’s melting everything
all the colors flood my eyes forming overwhelming signs
there’s something else something bigger than both of us resides
oh oh ah ohh, ohh ohhh It’s more than what you see
ohh oh ah ohh I wish you’d just believe me
ohh oh ah ohhh I just wish you’d call sometime
It’s not just shadows on the wall
(overlapping both verses at the sametime)
oh oh ah ohh, ohh ohhh It’s more than what you see
ohh oh ah ohh I wish you’d just believe me
ohh oh ah ohhh I just wish you’d call sometime
It’s not just shadows on the wall
have you ever seen the light the sun brings
have you ever seen the light the sun brings
I wish you’d just believe me
have you ever seen the light the sun brings
I just wish you’d call sometimes
It’s not just shadows on the wall
…sometime
It’s not just shadows on the wall
ELIZABETH
Oh there’s a burden deep down in my soul
thought I could forget it until I got old
but just like the rain up on the hill
I remember it all
Oh in the back room of a house of wood
the house we built the best we could
there lies all the pain we feel
and I remember it all
Oh sweet Elizabeth
Oh sweet Elizabeth
Oh sweet Elizabeth
I’m sorry now
but i let you down
Oh tear down the walls of our house of memory
the wood is warped and rotten here anyway
just like the fall that consumed the kill
I remember it all
Oh sweet Elizabeth
Oh sweet Elizabeth
Oh sweet Elizabeth
I’m sorry now
but i let you down
I can’t forget it
this running and spinning
and I can’t feel the ground
It’s always the same
we feed our pain
and all that is left is shame
shame…shame…and pain
Oh sweet Elizabeth
Oh sweet Elizabeth
Oh sweet Elizabeth
I’m sorry now but i let you…
Oh sweet Elizabeth
Oh sweet Elizabeth
Oh sweet Elizabeth
I’m sorry now but i let you down
I’m sorry now… but I let you down
WHISPER –
I hear your whisper calling back to me
some kind of secret a simple melody
I feel your body touched by the warmth of the sun
even with eyes closed I know that you’re the only one
I’ll wait and be patient wish we could last forever
I know that you will be back around again
around again
I taste the salt tangled in your breath
just like a Pringles brand potato chip
I see your soul in the color of the leaves
I watch you move in the breaking of the sea
I’ll wait and be patient wish we could last forever
I know that you will be back
floating in and out of an ever changing aura
I feel this won’t be our last
I know that you will be back around again
around again
I hear you whisper calling back to me
DOWN & OUT
when did everybody lose their luck
everybody grew a gut and let themselves go
hell I don’t know
maybe being perfect is overrated
partially understated all the same
hell I don’t know
if you want to know the truth
maybe we’re better, better, better off without
(maybe we’re better, better, better off without)
now that we’ve found out
life better when you’re down and out
life better when you’re down and out
life better when you’re down and out
we can sing melody but only when it’s blowing free
and lets itself go
well I don’t know
we can make it better
by writing words by the letter
just sound it out, oh, down and out
if you want to know the truth
maybe we’re better, better, better off without
(maybe we’re better, better, better off without)
now that we’ve found out
life better when you’re down and out
life better when you’re down and out
life better when you’re down and out
so let’s write it out
you know quicker ain’t better
cctx not atx
we can prove ‘em wrong
no genres to this song
no money in our pocket
the only way to live it
if you want to know the truth
maybe we’re better, better, better off without
(maybe we’re better, better, better off without)
now that we’ve found out
maybe we’re better, better, better off without
(maybe we’re better, better, better off without)
now that we’ve found out
life better when you’re down and out
life better when you’re down and out
life better when you’re down and out
THE WORLD IS SOUND ASLEEP
It’s 11:29 and I am all alone
I’ve got a damaged view from a perfect window
all my frames intact, but these eyes they are cracked
I’m seeing double and I don’t know where you’re at
these clouds hold so much rain like reservoirs built in brains
mine is filled to the brim
and I pour this poison down and still my love is sound
but this world is sound asleep
just dreaming
of something
or maybe nothing
It’s gotta be something
these clouds hold so much rain like reservoirs built in brains
mine is filled to the brim
as I pour this poison down and still my love is sound
but this world is sound asleep
just dreaming of something of nothing they wished on
but don’t have the faith or the confidence in them
they’re waiting for someone to take them away
from the hell which they’re living in
but you have control don’t let anyone tell you
that forces are out there pushing and puling
controlling your heart like a fine graphic art
keep that needle out of my eye
but I poured down the poison
and It’s slowly destroying
all this pain that’s disintegrating
ahh, ahhh, ahh Ahh, ahh, ohhh ahh, ahh, ahhh ahhh, ahh, ohhh ……!!!
It’s 11:29 and I am all alone
I’ve got a damaged view from a perfect window
all my frames intact but these eyes they are cracked
I’m seeing double and I don’t know where you’re at
YOSH & YIMMY “Yive in Concert” was recorded in front of a live, intimate audience at Vega Studio in Athens, GA during Yosh & Yimmy’s ‘Americana Summer’ Tour in June, 2019. The album features band favorites, as well as new and unreleased songs, showcasing Yosh & Yimmy’s eclectic style, rich harmonies, thought-provoking lyrics, and epic beards. Produced by Yosh & Yimmy, mixed by Gavin Solis, mastered by Sleight Productions. Cover design by Jimmy Willden & Josh Glenn.
BY THE LIGHT OF FIRE (Written by Jimmy Willden) – Honestly, the song was written after watching one of the Presidential debates between Trump and Clinton in 2016. It’s my political song, without really being political, or specific. I was just getting emotions out.
OH UNIVERSE (Written by Josh Glenn) – Sometimes it seems like all good things become disappearing ink and the universe is just conspiring against you. Then you reflect and realize that it’s all leading you to something greater and patience is the best virtue.
THE DAY YOU LEARNED TO FLY (Written by Jimmy Willden) – Written the day Tom Petty passed away, and a couple days after the mass shooting in Las Vegas. There was all this heaviness in the air, and this song was an attempt at cathartic release, and to capture the moment.
BREAK WITHER SETTLE (Written by Josh Glenn) – Life is like a falling leaf, twisting and floating till it lands on solid ground and becomes one with the earth again, slowly turning back into a seed and giving new life.
I CAN’T HELP MYSELF (Written by Jimmy Willden) – This one took over three years to write, which really means the writing process began one afternoon, and then the song was forgotten about, until three years later when an unfinished voice memo demo was found on my phone. After putting the finishing touches on the song, I showed it to Josh. This the story of a bad memory…of procrastination… paying off.
SHADOWS ON THE WALL (Written by Josh Glenn and Jimmy Willden) – One evening, before a gig, we set down and started jamming. Jimmy grabbed a banjo off the wall, and Josh Picked up his guitar, and the opening riff came out, and our minds drifted, settling on the old allegory of Plato’s Cave. Using it as inspiration, this song tells the story of one brother trying to get the other brother out of a deep depression, and to experience the world anew.
ELIZABETH (Written by Jimmy Willden) – Explores a couple’s life after a pregnancy ends in a medical-emergency.
WHISPER (Written by Josh Glenn and Jimmy Willden) – Inspired by the coastal breeze in Corpus Christi.
DOWN & OUT (Written by Jimmy Willden and Ty Dietz) – An upbeat song about being “under the weather”; how we as artists tend to deliver our best creations when our heart is broken.
THE WORLD IS SOUND ASLEEP (Written by Josh Glenn) – The moment a heart breaks, you can’t see clearly and it feels like you’re all alone while the rest of the world spins madly on.
